Aisha Rao and Punit Balana present joint digital showcase at Lakme Fashion Week

Aisha Roa presented heavily embellished traditional wear with ‘Pastiche,’ and Punit Balana showcased understated elegance with ‘Muneer’, at Lakme Fashion Week’s first digital edition on Sunday.

 
On the final day of Lakme Fashion Week’s first digital and season-fluid collection, traditional wear designers Aisha Rao and Punit Balana were paired for a joint showcase released as a fashion film. The showcase featured different digital backdrops for each designer with Rao’s resembling the interior of an ancient temple and Balana’s resembling a mix between a metro tunnel and a sunrise.
 
Aisha Rao’s collection Pastiche featured a selection of classic traditional wear with red and gold sarees and embellished kurtas. The darker ensembles provided a contrast backdrop to highlight their intricate floral embroidery and showstopper Athiya Shetty closed the show in a red lehenga completely covered in nature inspired appliqués. 

 
Punit Balana’s collection began with a more natural colour palette with floaty layers and relaxed yet elegant silhouettes. Stripes made from delicate floral prints were seen on lehengas and, as the collection progressed, deep red hues started to make an appearance. Velvet added a tactile element to the collection and pom pom details added a sense of fun.

Both womenswear collections included ample occasion wear options, as well as resort wear-esque pieces, well suited to the season fluid nature of the fashion show. Lakme Fashion Week concluded its first-ever digital edition on Sunday and has now launched its Designer Stockroom e-commerce fair, featuring items from the runway.
