“We must recover our losses so that we continue to flourish as designers, as employers, as custodians of craftsmanship,” the brand’s co-founder, Sandeep Khosla, told Vogue India.

“That recovery and regeneration cannot happen without ‘Be Indian, Buy Homegrown' becoming the motto and practice of buyers.”

Despite the ongoing 21-day lockdown and the retail disruption it is expected to leave in its wake, the brand still plans to launch its upcoming contemporary label Samosaa in the near future.

“Our homegrown is the finest there is,” said Khosla. “And people must rally around brand and design India, to keep it dynamic, alive and vibrant.”

The brand has taken to sharing stories of positivity on its Facebook page to keep customers motivated.

“Let’s count our blessings that we are here today and that I can even post this video,” said Khosla in a video on his brand’s Facebook page.

“Let’s spread the love… it’s time to think big… it’s time to think different.”

While Khosla is currently under lockdown in Mumbai, co-founder Abu Jani has found himself stuck in London, which is also under lockdown, the Mumbai Mirror reported. The design duo are continuing to work and check up on employees.

Before the lockdown, the brand released a commemorative postage stamp in collaboration with the Indian Department of Posts. The stamp was released to celebrate “the cultural and craft diversity of Indian fashion and also pay homage to the fashion industry and design pioneers,” the brand announced on Facebook. The stamp features an image of a model wearing a flared sherwani by the brand.

Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla launched their label in 1986 in Mumbai. The brand’s bridal flagship store is located in Kemps Corner, Mumbai and the label retails in a wide range of multi-brand boutiques in India and internationally. The brand opened its most recent store in Hyderabad in February.
