AAI to open branded fashion and beauty retail outlets in Chennai Airport

The Airports Authority of India is in the process of setting up a number of retail outlets in Chennai Airport including for fashion and beauty brands and aims to open them within the next few weeks.

Travellers at Chennai Airport will soon be able to shop fashion, beauty, and lifestyle products whilst waiting for their flight. "We have completed installing shops at domestic and international arrival terminals,” an official told TNN. “Only the international departure terminal is left. The move is to open the shops in a few weeks."

The AAI has been setting up the retail outlets at the airport since its new contract at the end of 2018. Ten shops are being set up in the international departure terminal and 10 shops have already been set up in the international arrival terminal.

The airport’s international terminals have been designated a maximum space of 720 square metres for retail shops and the domestic terminals have been allotted 503.93 square metres. The AAI has not confirmed the full brand list that will set up shop in the airport but said that shops will cover product categories including jewellery, clothing, gift items, cosmetics, personal care, medicine, electronics, and books among other items. The airport’s heavy passenger footfall provides a significant retail opportunity for brands in the area.
