Twenty three Indian textile firms showcased a wide range of products at the Cairo Fashion and Tex Exhibition last week. The Indian pavilion at the fair, which concluded last week, was inaugurated by India's ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya, who said he was optimistic about the growing Egyptian market for Indian cotton yarn and other fabrics.

The participation of Indian companies was organised by the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil), an apex textile chamber sponsored by the Indian Government, in association with the Embassy of India in Cairo, according to a news agency report.

India exported around $342 million worth of textile and clothing products to Egypt in 2017.
Cotton yarn was the dominant product in the export basket, accounting for $163 million, followed by man-made yarn fabrics at $121 million and cotton fabrics at $25 million.
