2021 saw e-commerce hiring rise 28%, trend set to continue in 2022

The e-commerce industry saw employment opportunities increase by 28% in 2021. 2022 is set to witness even greater growth in the sector as the e-commerce market continues to grow in terms of both customer base and revenue.

With the Indian e-commerce market on schedule to reach $111 billion (Rs 738.5 lakh crore) by 2024 and $200 billion by 2026, the sector’s growth is causing a boom in job opportunities, according to human resources business TeamLease Services, the Press Trust of India reported. The deeper penetration of e-commerce into non-metro locations has also led to increased e-commerce employment opportunities in Tier 2 to 4 cities where these jobs were previously limited to metros. 
 
“With the aggressive vaccination drive pan India and economic activities gaining normalcy, next year is going to be very optimistic,” said TeamLease Services’ vice president and business head Ajoy Thomas, the Press Trust of India reported. “Hiring activities have resumed in most of the industries, even the ones which faced maximum impact last year.”

Job opportunities in e-commerce are expected to rise by 32% in 2022, according to Thomas. In 2021, jobs which were particularly in-demand included warehouse roles, supply chain management roles, and support service roles. Numerous e-commerce business also introduced new employee benefits to make them more attractive including more flexible schedules and childcare options.
