The day two of LFW is always celebrated as Sustainable Day giving opportunity to designers across the country to showcase their sustainable collections at the event. This year too designers from Northeast, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Gujarat and Puducherry will showcase at the event.

The ensembles are created by trained rural women under the guidance of designers like Amit and Richard Pandav, Sayantan Sarkar, Soham Dave and Sreejith Jeevan. Leading Indian designer known for his sustainable wear Rajesh Pratap Singh will be closing the day with a show.

"With the launch of label Usha Silai we have created a platform that has the power to impact and change the lives of many. Using local skills and modern techniques, we will create an umbrella that caters to sustainable fashion in a modern language. This is an initiative that commences at the very foundation and attempts to reach wider audience through many mediums including the Internet," Priya Somaiya, Executive Director, Usha Social Services said in a statement.

"We are honoured to partner with Usha International for this initiative and launch Usha Silai at Lakme Fashion Week. It establishes the principle that for Indian fashion to be forward, it needs to think local and leverage human potential at the grassroot level for the development of a sustainable livelihood," Jaspreet Chandok, Head of Fashion, IMG Reliance added.

Usha Silai, is a label made by rural women of the Usha Silai School backed by Usha International which plans to later sell the products showcased and created at retail outlets.
