'Hunar Haat' festival gets underway in Gujarat

The 'Hunar Haat' exhibition organised by the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) got underway at the Sabarmati River Front in Gujarat on December 7.

The nine-day festival was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and will go on till December 15.
 
Lakhs of artisans and craftsmen from across India will showcase and sell their collections through the stalls at the festival.

Commenting on the festival, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in a statement said: "Hunar Haat being organised at prominent places across the country has proved to be financially beneficial for the needy artisans and craftsmen as each such event generates business worth crores of rupees for indigenous handmade exquisite products of artisans and craftsmen.
 
“While on one hand Hunar Haat promotes traditional arts of master artisans and craftsmen, on the other hand, thousands of artisans and people associated with them including a large number of women artisans have been provided employment and employment opportunities through Hunar Haat,” Naqvi added.
 
Hunar Haat has become a flagship event of MoMA where handicraft and handloom products made by artisans from across the country are showcased under one roof. It has been providing employment and revenue-generating opportunities to more than 150,000 artisans and others.

Hunar Haat festival will be next organised in the cities of Mumbai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, and Indore over the next three months.
