Zara to go online in India from October 4 as part of expansion strategy

Global fast-fashion brand Zara will enter India’s fashion e-commerce battle with the launch of its portal on October 4 in the country.

Zara’s ecommerce portal will offer the full range of articles that the brand currently offers in its stores at the country and at the same prices, a company said in a statement.
 
Zara’s parent firm Inditex’s group chairman and CEO, Pablo Isla at the company’s last Annual General Meeting in Spain had announced the launch of Zara’s online store in India stating it is part of the ongoing international expansion strategy.

Zara is looking to revive its profits by online route which has proven to be successful for many retailers in the Indian market.
 
Inditex Trent, a joint venture (JV) of Zara-owner Inditex and Tata Group’s Trent, posted a jump of 21 per cent in sales to Rs 1,023 crore (approx $156 million) in 2016-17 (FY17) compared to Rs 842.5 crore (approx $131 million) in FY16. However, its profit after tax fell to Rs 48 crore (approx $7.4 million) in FY17, from Rs 80 crore (approx 12.3 million) in the year-ago period.
 
“Customers in India will be able to choose between picking up their orders at the store of their choice and at-home delivery,” it added.
 
Zara has promised a fast delivery of products with an estimated time frame of 2 to 4 working days for metros like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai while for the rest of the country it will take at least a week It will be made between 5 and 8 working days in the rest of the country, he said.
 
Unlike other leading ecommerce companies Zara will be charging its customers for delivery and offer free delivery to only those customers that shop above Rs 4000 (approx $80).
 
Zara which entered India seven years back currently has around 20 stores across the country.
