Walmart to open six new stores in Uttar Pradesh, bringing total to 10

The President and CEO of Walmart India, Krish Iyer, announced that the business will open six new stores in Uttar Pradesh which will bring its total in the area to ten and solidify its focus on the region as a priority growth region.

Speaking about Walmart’s presence in Uttar Pradesh, Iyer said: "We have four stores at present - two in Agra, and one each in Meerut and Lucknow." Iyer spoke at the opening of Walmart India’s second of three planned business to business (B2B) fulfilment centres which opened this week.

"Uttar Pradesh is a very important and priority growth region for us and we are further expanding our business in the state to support kiranas, small farmers and local suppliers to help make them successful," explained Iyer. "The next such centre will be set up in Hyderabad." 

Walmart will also open “Best Price” stores across Uttar Pradesh in the near future including in Kanpur, Moradabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Sharanpur, Lucknow, and Ghaziabad. At present Walmart is expanding its own brad network across India as well as preparing for its 77 percent Flipkart acquisition deal pending government approval. Walmart has stated on numerous occasions that it will keep the two businesses separate in India for the foreseeable future.
