Uniqlo will open an online store for the Thai market this Friday, in a bid to assert its physical stores by offering unlimited items, national coverage and constant access to consumers, according to local media.

The global Japanese fashion label, helmed by Fast Retailing, told news outlet, The Nation, the online store would help strengthen the retailer's 'Made For All' brand strategy, making itself available to every Thai consumer.

Chanvit Khieonavavongsa, marketing and public relations director and head of e-commerce at Uniqlo Thailand, said the e-commerce channel is a means of answering the demand for broader coverage. The firm has consistently received queries from consumers who do not live in those areas where it has stores, he said.

Furthermore, the online store will offer more sizes, colours and stock-keeping units to serve customers' fashion needs, he added.

Exclusive to the Thai online store, Uniqlo will even offer cash payment on delivery for those Thai consumers concerned about using credit cards for online transactions.

However, Chanvit told The Nation the firm's online channel would not take away from the brand's expansion of physical outlets in Thailand.

"We consider this (store expansion] separately. As long as there are good locations and customers, (we will open a store). There is no intention of reducing the opening of branches," he said.

After opening two stores in the first half of 2016, Uniqlo Thailand is scheduled to introduce another two outlets this September: one at Blu Port in Hua Hin, and the other at Mall Korat.

Entering Thailand five years ago, Uniqlo currently has 32 physical stores in nine provinces, covering around one-third of the population.
