Tiffany & Co. has directly called out President Trump through digital and print ads asking him to take steps to support the environment by staying in 2015's Paris Climate Agreement.

Yesterday, the luxury jeweler posted the following message on Instagram on its signature blue background: "Dear President Trump, we're still in for bold climate action. Please keep the U.S. in the Paris Climate Agreement. The disaster of climate change is too real, and the threat to our planet and to our children is too great."

It also put the same text in black and white in its regular prominent ad spot in the New York Times. The New York Times also ran an ad earlier this week showing the letter a number of companies signed supporting the Paris Agreement, including Gap and Apple.

Undoubtedly this ad will get Trump's attention. He is not only active on social media himself, but he named one of his daughters Tiffany after his love for the brand.

The actual Instagram post created a spike in traffic for Tiffany & Co.'s Instagram. It saw 70K likes and over 1,200 comments. In comparison, its series of posts featuring Lady Gaga modeling product reached approximately 40K likes each and under 200 comments per post.

As the Trump name and presidency is certain to create a discussion in modern American politics, certain brands are experiencing success in taking a definitive stance around the president and his policies. While many fans praised Tiffany & Co. for speaking out, other followers were not so thrilled with this political statement.

One comment pointed to the ethics of Tiffany & Co.'s diamond sourcing, asking "can you certify that every diamond you sell is not funding terrorism or oppressing communities? Those who live in [crystal] cages should not be throwing shade..."

Another comment called the post "kind of hypocritical coming from a jewellery store which sources its products by mining which I'm sure is no good for the environment."

Despite the negative feedback, fans overwhelmingly came to the rescue of the brand with a general outpouring of support. Many applauded and thanked the brand for using its platform to speak out on an issue they feel is important.
