The new face of the John Galliano label

The John Galliano brand is making a comeback to the fashion scene. After four years of muted existence, notably marked by the March 2011 eviction of John Galliano, the ready-to-wear brand under the artistic direction of designer Bill Gaytten, the former assistant of the famous English designer, has unveiled a new positioning during men's fashion week.

The contemporary John Galliano line for both men and women

The John Galliano collection is now divided between what is called the "show collection", with more sophisticated womenswear pieces, which will show in October in Paris, and a premium contemporary collection for both men and women, which has just shown in Paris, aimed at a larger audience with more affordable pieces.

This new spring/summer 2016 collection really stands out for its young and fresh style, pared down compared to the former baroque style of John Galliano. Bill Gaytten plays with lengths and layering of light and transparent materials.

Layering and transparency characterise the John Galliano SS16 collection

An ultra-long trench coat, a short pleated skirt, soft leather Bermuda shorts, a knit sweater with an oversized folded down collar, colourful suits, jackets with lateral pockets, asymetrical dresses…

All of the simple-looking pieces conceal sopisticated little details, which really give a contemporary touch to the collections. All of the clothing uses a single colour (the collection only has a handful of prints) which allows for a certain depth.

The palette is both sober, with neutral shades (black, white, flesh-coloured, khaki) and very summery, with a range of sorbet tones (yellow, sky blue, mint green, orange and every shade of pink).

A bit of sparkle here and there works to give the entire collection a resolutely modern appeal, such as a pair of silver trousers with zippers on the shins, or the knit top in transparent golden yellow lurex, or the shiny salmon-coloured neoprene leather perfecto matched with a silver green straight skirt.
