A senior officer in the Telangana Government told the Press Trust of India that the following months will see the formulation of a retail trade policy for the state that is home to a lot of India’s textile production.

The decision to roll out a retail trade policy comes at a time when a lot is being invested in Telangana’s garment production industry as well as retail. For example, Lulu Group has a mall planned for the area, Welspun has two technical textile units planned, and an apparel park is also planned for the near future.

“Very shortly in a matter of next couple of months we are bringing out our retail trade policy and we have decided to include ‘Direct Selling’ also as a component of this retail trade,” said Jayesh Ranjan, the Principal Secretary for IT and Industries. “For the organised retail we are announcing in our retail trade policy that the state will take care of responsibility for training (skilled manpower) completely at its cost, and if ‘Direct Selling’ is included in the retail trade policy then this benefit will be also extended to the direct selling sector.” This move follows Sikkim and Chhattisgarh.
