The festival will take place over the course of 12 days and across several cities including Cairo, Port Said, and Alexandria. Aiming to give a flavour of Indian culture, music, cuisine, art, and dance will all be represented in the form of performances and interactive sessions. This year, for the first time, fashion will also take centre stage as the well-known traditional and fusion wear designer Tarun Tahiliani will present his latest collection in a fashion show.

Tahiliani’s spring summer 2018 collection is entitled Tarakini and has the tagline “a new lightness of glamour”. A light and airy colour palate mixes with floaty textiles and lavish embellishments. Tahiliani recently showed the collection at Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai and this will be Tahiliani’s first time showcasing his designs on the runway in Egypt.

The event’s organiser, India’s Ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya, told the Hindustan Times that the embassy organising committee have been working on the festival for the past year. “The fashion show is entirely a new item. Tarun Tahiliani is among the biggest fashion designers,” explained Bhattacharyya. Another first for this edition of the festival will be an Indian movie screening.

The Egypt by the Nile festival is jointly organised by the Embassy of India in Egypt and the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture in collaboration with Teamwork Arts.
