August 17th was LFW’s Sustainable Fashion Day and Sunita Shanker was chosen to show her designs as one of the day’s nine shows. Shanker was chosen as she places a large emphasis on handwoven textiles which is both in line with the Indian Government’s “Make in India” campaign and helping to sustain traditional crafts in local areas where her garments are produced, such as Madhya Pradesh and Kutch.

Shanker’s autumn/ winter collection featured bold prints and sophisticated colour blocking and the three main colours were red, black, and white. Shirt collars featured heavily but so did floaty dresses and so a contrast between smart casual and bohemian femininity was created. Metallic print details also added to the overall look. Most of the outfits were daywear but there were also some evening pieces towards the end of the show.

Sunita Shanker launched her label over a decade ago inspired by the crafts of India. Retailed in well-known designer boutiques Ogaan and Ensemble, Shanker also produces textiles and furnishings.
