Dhir, who launched his eponymous menswear line in 2011 and went on to win the 2015/16 International Woolmark Prize for menswear, has now officially forayed into womenswear. The new capsule collection is designed for women but follows on from his menswear in terms of tailoring, inspiration, and aesthetic.

Although this is the first time Dhir is putting out a collection for women, he told Elle India that he has been working in the field for years.

“I have been trying these garments on Svetlana [his wife and muse] for seven or eight years… the time felt just right to launch this collection.”

The collection includes pant suits, a pyjama suit, and bomber jackets, among other garments. The colour palette is kept natural but also includes some print and textiles used include ikats, brocades, cashmere and merino blends, and Khadi.

Dhir has become an ambassador of slow fashion in India and repeatedly states that he designs the clothes he wants to, without any particular theme or take-off point.

Even after the media buzz that surrounded him after his Woolmark prize win, Dhir has remained a reluctant user of social media and keeps his brand’s online presence to a minimum.

When asked about when he will drop a second womenswear collection, Dhir stated that it will not be any time soon as he does not want to generate waste from his current collection and would rather wait until it sold out.
