Every year, Mumbai’s ITM University holds Sparkplug, an event that allows the graduating students to show their work to a selection of professionals in the industry they hope to break into. Students from the university’s Institute of Fashion, Design, and Technology (IFTD) took part and this year collections were shown with themes including the Godfather, Gangs of Samurai, Wilted Flowers, the Greek Goddess Theia, and World War One. There was an equal mix of highly conceptual designs and more ready to wear looks.

As with every year, fashion designers, brand representatives, and executives attended the event. Just some of the professionals who attended included Shalini Jaikaria, the founder of Geisha Designs, Killer Jeans’ Creative Head Sanjeev Waadhwani, Birla Cellulose’s Head of Design Nelson Jaffrey, and Siyarams’ Assistant Brand Manager Amit Nawani. Shalini Jaikaria said, “It has reinstated our faith that the future of Indian design industry is in competent hands” when she awarded the show’s winners with their prizes in categories such as “best design collection” and “best interior design concept”.

The Interior Design students were also featured at the event and they showcased concept visual diaries and scale models demonstrating their work. Nitin Putcha, CEO of ITM Group of Institutions stated that “the annual design event has become one of the leading students’ initiative design shows” as he congratulated the students on their work.
