Solapur, Maharashtra based garment and uniform manufacturing facilities expect to reach revenue of around Rs Rs 1,000 crore in the next two years. The optimism comes from the positive outcome of the recently held garment fair in Solapur, which is expected to fetch additional business of Rs 200-250 crore for Solapur based apparel makers.

“We recently conducted a uniform and garments fair, which will fetch us additional business of Rs 200-250 crore, so we can surely do business of Rs 1,000 crore in the next two years,” Amit Kumar Jain, joint secretary of the Sri Solapur Readymade Kapad Utpadak Sangh told a leading daily.

“We also received inquiries from several global buyers from Iraq, Kenya, Iran, Sudan and Czech Republic for school uniforms, while a Sudanese company is also interested in setting up a production facility in Solapur,” Jain added.

According to Jain, there are more than 1,000 apparel production units in Solapur, providing employment more than 60,000 people.

The trade body is also in the process of commissioning a garment training centre in Solapur, which will initially train 200 women, with the aim to train at least 5,000 women.
