Shrujan Threads of Life is hosting the Sustainable Fashion Exhibition and Sale from December 13 to 17 in Fort, Mumbai.
Shrujan, a sustainable business that sells garments and homeware featuring traditional embroidery from the Kutch region, is hosting its annual Sustainable Fashion Exhibition and Sale at the Coomaraswarmy Hall on M.G. Road in Fort, Mumbai. The exhibition, which will run from December 13 to 17, will feature fashion shows as well as stalls for the public to shop. The aim of the event is to promote sustainable fashion and traditional handicrafts as well as acting as a one stop shop for gifts this winter festive season.
Some of the items that will be available to shop at the event include tunics, sarees, kurtas, dupattas, bags, and home furnishings. Different embroidery styles will be showcased and their sustainable production discussed.
Shrujan was founded in 1969 as a small project after the Kutch region experienced a severe drought. The business’ founder Chandaben Shroff created a famine relief project to assist with relief efforts and, during this time, Shroff saw the plethora of embroidery styles the area had to offer and decided to create a business that would employ local craftswomen and reinvest profits into the community. Shrujan now works with 16 different traditional embroidery styles and employs 3,500 women in 140 villages as well as having stores in Bhujodi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai.
