Ruceru was inspired by the Bengali dance drama “Chitrangada” by Rabindranat Tagore for its upcoming winter festive collection. The design duo will present the collection as part of LFW at the St Regis, Mumbai, on August 25 at 4:30pm.

“We at Ruceru have always emphasised on women empowerment and the sense of an unapologetic self,” said the designers in a press release.

“In this collection our theme celebrates the basic joy of having equal right and freedom of expression, unburdened with the innumerable expectations and norms of the society.”

The collection will explore embroidery, surface techniques, and beading and will be suitably opulent for the upcoming festive season.

“Our silhouettes are deeply rooted with a strong attempt to introduce tradition in our urban world,” said the Brandon on social media.

“Deconstruction of traditional way of draping a saree or the concept of a basic gored lehenga transferred into a gown or a constructive saree palla teamed up in a jumpsuit, we have tried exploring tradition through our vision.”

Chitrangada, the main character in the dance drama that the collection is named after, is a warrior princess, and is “the epitome of strength and power and femininity,” according to the brand. In order to capture her essence, the collection will have feminine silhouettes and remain soft.

Ruceru was launched in Kolkata in 2011 by Ruchi Roongta and Rashi Agarwal.

The brand retails from multi-brand boutiques across India. Lakmé Fashion Week will run from August 22 to 26 at the St Regis in Lower Parel, Mumbai.
