Rina Dhaka to team up with the NGO Smile for her ICW showcase

Huawei and the Smile Foundation’s new initiative, Honor the Smile, will receive a proportion of Rina Dhaka’s profits from her upcoming ICW viewing as she supports the campaign.

On July 24th Dhaka tweeted that she was honoured to join the Honor the Smile initiative, which is a collaboration between the NGO Smile and Honor, Huawei’s smartphone e-brand whose target market is young Indians. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness for girl child empowerment. Huawei has enacted this through a photo sharing contest through their new model of smartphone, the Honor 8 Pro, where winners can win the phone itself or can meet Bollywood celebrity Huma Qureshi, the NGO Smile’s ambassador.

Qureshi is also set to feature in Rina Dhaka’s exhibition on the last day of India Couture Week (ICW). Dhaka will conduct a viewing of her collection from three to three thirty in the afternoon at Taj Palace on ICW’s final day. Opting for an exhibition instead of a traditional runway show this season like the designer Anamika Khanna, Dhaka will show a collection that infuses clothing with her love of jewellery.

Along with using the viewing as an opportunity to show her latest couture collection, Dhaka said that it is also a chance to raise funds for the Smile Foundation. Dhaka stated that a “Percentage of the clothing sales will go towards charity in addition to donating two ensembles to an auction”.

Rina Dhaka started her eponymous label in the late eighties and since then has gone on to have her designs stocked internationally in countries including America, Germany, and Hong Kong. Dhaka also has a standalone retail outlet in DLF Emporio in New Delhi. Dhaka has won the Best Designer award at Miami fashion week and Yuva Ratan award among others.
