The Fashion Book, which was first released by publisher Phaidon in 1998, has just come out in a new version.

Phaidon

The tome spans almost 200 years of fashion and represents the entire industry, from designers to icons, stylists and retailers. The new edition also features "the new category of educational institutions that have been fundamental in the careers of many of the creative individuals," Phaidon stated.

Existing entries have been updated and Phaidon has also added a number of new names, including Nicholas Ghesquière, Gareth Pugh, Phoebe Philo, Mert and Marcus, Mario Sorrenti, Lady Gaga and Tilda Swinton.

The 576 entries in The Fashion Book are organised as an A-Z guide of names, and each entry is illustrated with a photograph or drawing by creative talents in the fashion industry. The book, which Vogue described as "the fashion bible," also uses a cross-referencing system and glossary to explain the many collaborations and techniques used in fashion, which Phaidon calls "that singular business which lives somewhere between art and commerce."

The book can be purchased on the Phaidon website and is available in both English and French.
