Reliance Retail working on apparel wholesale portal

Reliance Industries’ subsidiary Reliance Retail is currently in the process of entering the wholesale fashion market both on- and offline and plans to create a business to business (B2B) portal and own-brand products.

ET Bureau reported sources stating that Reliance Retail is planning to tap into the largely unorganised wholesale garment market in India with its own offerings. The business has put together a team to work on creating an array of private labels which will be designed to sell to small and medium sized retailers. The business will also work with small and medium sized suppliers as part of this.

As part of the B2B venture, the business will create a system that includes logistics, warehousing, and marketing, among other services. Reliance Retail, however, has yet to make an official statement on the plan.

Reliance Retail currently operated Reliance Market, a chain of cash and carry stores, which does already carry some readymade clothing items as well as other fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) products. The new business plan would take wholesale fashion as its main focus.
