Verma’s Koya collection featured floaty silhouettes, an array of prints, and statement jewellery. The feel was eclectic and travel-inspired with sequins and embroidery adorning garments in a variety of motifs. Silk textiles mixed with more earthy fibres and the outfits were finished with stacks of bold jewellery with a strong ethnic influence.

Using the hashtag #madeinIndia, Verma stated on her social media sites that her brand produces and constructs garments and accessories in India itself. A textile used throughout Verma’s collection was what she termed the “Koya jungle print”, a silk with a mix of animal print and abstract patterns. The jungle theme was also reflected by animal motifs featured on leather accessories including belts.

Rara Avis was launched by Sonal Verma in January 2013 in New Delhi and went on to win the Elle Graduate Award in 2014.

Verma has been showing at Lakmé Fashion Week since fall/ winter 2015/2016 and has also shown at the Tranoi Fair in Paris since spring/ summer 2017 onwards.
