Rajasthan Heritage Week ran from December 7 to 10 and was presented by the Khadi Board and the Government of Rajasthan along with its main sponsor, Prasad Bidapa Associates. The third edition of the festival celebrated modern fashion using traditional textiles and a variety of designers from the region presented their most recent collections in a runway show.

One of the main aims of the event was to shine the spotlight on handmade textiles from the region, especially Khadi. Many featured designers showed collections based around the textile and featured it in ways that stretched beyond traditional uses. One of these brands was Abraham and Thakore who showed a monochrome collection on the first day of the event that featured Khadi interpreted for modern tailoring. Designers from further afield were also featured and Bhutan’s Khendum Dorji showed a collection of heavily embroidered designer footwear. Hemant Trevedi presented a bright blue collection that mixed traditional wear with casual pieces and Rohit Bal presented an opulent collection of traditional wear. The theme of the collections was “The New Face of Khadi” and each designer showed a new way to use the sustainable fabric.

Weavers showcased their work in sessions that were open to the public each day of the event. A press conference was also held to discuss Khadi and the fashion industry. The event was held at the Diggi Palace Hotel in Jaipur and the Hon. CM of Rajasthan, Smt. Vasundhara Raje presided over the festivities.
