Focused on day wear and modern silhouettes, the main colours of the collection were nudes and these were interspersed with blue accents. Hand-loomed cotton mixed with silk tulle and lace trims and feminine dresses were offset with harder elements such as biker jackets. The collection took traditional textiles and mixed them up to create a modern, fresh look, much as the collection’s name, Mélange, suggests.

Shon Randhawa, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Patine, said about the textiles used in the collection, “Kantha, an ancient craft evolved through millennia, evokes mythological allusions of its origins. This craft and its embroideries express the ingenuity of the women of Bengal, taking discarded rags and breathing new life, new colours into this panoply of beauty, heritage, and history. Through the skill of their women, resourcefulness of their hands and the power of their imagination, these tapestries and its motifs reflects the vivid history and legacy of Bengal, its rituals, symbols of life and death, chakras of energy, mother earth and her creatures have served as an inspiration for Patine SS18 RTW collection Mélange.”
