Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company Patanjali, known for its natural beauty and health products, has now entered the Indian telecom market. Patanjali has launched a SIM card in partnership with the government-owned telecom network BSNL.

The SIM card is currently only available to Patanjali employees and office bearers but will launch to the public soon. The card will allow users to get a 10 percent discount on Patanjali products such as beauty and wellness items and, with a Rs 144 recharge card, users will have unlimited country-wide calls, 2 GB data, and 100 SMSs. The card will also come with health and life insurance up to Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively, valid only for road accidents.

The business plans to distribute the SIM cards on a huge scale. "There are five lakh counters of BSNL and from there people can soon get Patanjali swadeshi-samradhi card," explained Ramdev at the launch event on Sunday. Ramdev explained that he chose to work with BSNL as it is a “Swadeshi network” and his motive for launching the card is the “welfare of the country”.
