Pakistan’s textile exports fall 7.42% year-on-year in 2015-16

The value of textile and garment exports made by Pakistan decreased by 7.42 per cent year-on-year in fiscal 2015-16, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. During July-June 2015-16 period, Pakistan earned $12.455 billion from textiles and apparel exports compared to exports worth $13.453 billion made in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.


The value of textile and garment exports made by Pakistan decreased by 7.42 per cent year-on-year in fiscal 2015-16.


Category-wise, knitwear exports fell by 1.54 per cent year-on-year to $2.369 billion during the year, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up by 4.83 per cent to $2.196 billion.

Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $76.633 million during the period under review, showing a sharp drop of 47.89 per cent compared to exports of $147.060 million made during the same period of the previous fiscal. Likewise, cotton yarn exports fell by 31.77 per cent to $1.261 billion, as against exports of $1.849 billion made during 2014-15.

Exports of cotton fabric dropped 9.71 per cent to $2.214 billion during the year, while bedwear exports declined by 4.14 per cent to $2.016 billion, the data showed.

On the import side, synthetic fibre imports dropped 9.13 per cent year-on-year to $481.985 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell 9.11 per cent to $619.565 million.

However, the value of textile machinery imports during the period increased by 2.68 per cent year-on-year to $461.510 million.
