The model Mona Varonica Campbell has announced that she aims to start a plus-size fashion line, although she has not yet revealed its name. A graduate of the London College of Fashion, it appears that modelling is merely Campbell’s entry into the Indian fashion industry and she plans on offering a lot more.

Campbell walked for Wendell Rodricks’ Spring Summer 2018 show as part of Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai, which garnered her a lot of publicity. Rodricks is known for his diverse choice of models and also included other plus-size models as part of the show. Cambell was not the first transgender model to walk at Lakmé Fashion Week as Nepal’s Anjali Lama has and continues to model at the event but she is the first plus-size transgender model in India and her acceptance, along with Lama’s, in the Indian fashion industry marks a shift towards greater diversity.

Mona Varonica Campbell was born in Andhra Pradesh and went on to study fashion at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) before studying for a masters at the London College of Fashion. Cambell then moved to Canada where she began modelling after completing her transition, and then returned to India.
