On April 2, Uttarakhand’s Minister Rawat met with the AEPC at the state secretariat in Dehradun to discuss ways of promoting textile production in the state. This meeting was in line with the Union Government’s “Make in India” campaign that has been working to increase domestic production in many industries, including the textile industry.

Minister Rawat spoke at the meeting on the importance of creating job opportunities for young people in the state. It is expected that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed by the government of Uttarakhand and the Apparel Training and Designing Centre (ATDC) to commit to expanding the Fashion Design Centre, which is based in Kashipur. A skills development programme is also planned to launch at the centre.

The Uttarakhand Information and Public Relations Department has also issued a press release stating that it will promote small scale textile production in the state’s hilly areas. Minister Rawat has asked officials to find out how to best achieve this.
