Mapic, the commercial property trade fair, which ends today, handed out its traditional awards yesterday. And France was on display in several categories. Thus, Qwartz from Altaréa Cogedim was named the most innovative shopping centre; Terrasses du Port (Hammerson) in Marseille received the award for best urban project by business; and Beaugrenelle (Apsys) was honoured with a special award from the Jury for a project.

On the side of fashion, Uniqlo was not surprised to see its new store in Paris' Marais district be awarded best fashion commercial concept. Cosmetics specialist Kiko Milano easily won in the best retail chain expansion category. Armada Developpement Project in Turkey and Fashion outlet of Chicago in the United States respectively took home the trophies for best shopping centre renovation and best factory store.

Finally, catering is increasingly asserting itself as an engine for distribution concepts. French Causses thus won the award for best new commercial concept, and German restaurant Vapiano, a specialist in Italian dishes, took home the award for best restaurant concept.

Last but not least, the jury presented two special awards. In addition to the special project award given to Beaugrenelle, it distinguished New Look with the store making a comeback award.
