Manish Malhotra shows collection in Kenya

On November 25, Manish Malhotra held a fashion show in Kenya and his muse Kareena Kapoor Khan closed the show.

Manish Malhotra has been exploring the idea of international fashion shows for a while now and, on November 25, he held his first runway show in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi. Accompanying the designer and headlining the show was Malhotra’s long time muse, the Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan. Khan, who appears in the upcoming movie “Veere Di Wedding” slated for May 2018, also made her runway comeback at the event after taking time out to have a baby.

“Everything goes still when she walks on the mirror ramp,” said Malhotra who dressed Khan in a white lace lehenga featuring a corset style blouse and cape-like dupatta. Malhotra’s Kenya collection focused on traditional wear and bridal wear as well as menswear. The runway show featured mirrored flooring, a large projector, and hundreds of hanging lights and Malhotra showcased the heavily embellished traditional wear he has come to be known for.

Manish Malhotra launched his eponymous label in 2004 after working as a costume designer in the Indian film industry since 1990. Malhotra has worked in styling for over 1,000 Indian movies and specialises in traditional and bridal wear. Malhotra has also shown collections in South Africa, Dubai, and India and is currently pursuing hosting fashion shows in other countries. The brand has flagship stores across India and in Dubai and his designs also retail in a number of multi-brand fashion boutiques such as Aza Fashions and Ensemble.
