Master couturier and one of the leading names in India’s fashion industry Manav Gangwani showcased his India@70 collection with an offsite show at India Couture Week 2017 on Tuesday.

Fashion Design Council of India

Gangwani’s collection was a celebration of the spirit of India and was titled India@70 as the country has completed 70 years of Independence.

Young and stunningly gorgeous Bollywood actress Disha Patani added glamour as the showstopper walking the ramp in black trousseau with ‘maang tikka’ giving her a very traditional look.

“I think ‘Maang tikka’ gave a different look to my personality and it also broke the monotony. I love ‘maang tikkas’, it just adds so much to your face,” Patani said.

The maang tikka is a typically Indian hair adornment, placed on the bride's hairline with a drop pendant that gracefully sits on her forehead.

“This particular piece has an amalgamation Indian and western style. It’s very chic, classy and refreshing,” said Disha.

Talking about his latest collection Gangwani in a statement said, “In this collection, I have taken inspiration from the rich Indian heritage and have created a collection that brings together interesting elements from every region of India. I have used techniques silhouettes and designs that together create a perfect amalgamation of traditionalism and authenticity.”

This collection incorporated intricate motifs that have been embroidered on the garments making each garment a storyboard that depicts interesting scenes from the Mughal era. Motifs of the traditional Kathakali, gods and goddess add a touch of mystery to traditional elements of design. The use to miniature paintings in this collection projects the cultural diversity that India offers.

The colour pallet for this collection were colours that are most commonly seen in India, royal blue, crimson, ivory, orange and green with feminine luxurious silk brocades, rich velvets, sheer gauzy tissues with gold, the fabrics chosen for this collection.
