On day two of LFW, February 1, the Kolkata-based brand Maku showed a collection made from sustainable, handloom textiles. Famous for their natural indigo textile dyes, Maku’s latest collection mixed their trademark hue with clean white for a fresh, modern feel. Silhouettes were relaxed and loose and there was a mix of traditional wear such as sarees and kurta-esque ensembles and more western inspired dresses.

The collection contained deconstructed elements with asymmetrical tailoring and print was included in the form of various checks and ginghams and a simple pinstripe print. Models were given simple, pulled back hair by the Tres Emmé style team and wore thick rimmed glasses with natural makeup.

LFW, which is currently running until February 4, took sustainable fashion as the theme for its second day which, along with a host of runway shows, also included panel discussions and talks.

Maku Textile Private Limited is based in Kolkata and describes itself as a “slow fibre movement” that produces hand spun Khadi textiles with zero carbon footprint. The brand also uses only natural dyes and natural fibres and so they were a natural choice for LFW’s sustainable fashion showcase.
