To monitor acceptance and adoption of goods and services tax (GST) and digital payments among traders and render assistance to resolve related issues, the Maharashtra government will form district-level committees comprising senior officials and representatives of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The decision was taken at a meeting in Mumbai.

The meeting between senior government officials and CAIT representatives was held following the prime minister’s directions to chief secretaries of all states a few days back to promote adoption of GST and digital payments at district level and handholding of traders, according to a CAIT press release.

Digital kiosks may be opened in market places to allow traders not having access to computers to make tax compliance against nominal payment, CAIT suggested at the meeting. Free Wi-Fi may be provided in rural areas for at least a couple of hours daily to assist traders in tax compliance, it added.
