After doing much to promote Khadi textiles through specialised outlets in a number of large multi-brand stores, the MSME Ministry is planning to focus on the luxury market next. The MSME Ministry also plans to team up with the Textiles Ministry as well as esteemed fashion designers in order to develop products.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) discussed the plan at a board meeting on April 6 and it was also discussed that tie ups with luxury brands could be pursued in the long run. The plan for now is to sell luxury products at lounge sections of Khadi outlets.

A Secretary in the MEME Ministry, A K Panda, told the Press Trust of India: "We will first make a list of the actual super premium Khadi products which are already being manufactured in many parts of the country which we do not know of. We know one or two, but now we should have a directory of that and should try to showcase that in one place so that the youngsters if they are looking for something stylish they can actually opt for super premium Khadi products."
