Following Monte Carlo, Louis Vuitton is about to fly to Rio de Janeiro for the third showing of its Cruise collection, scheduled for 28th May at Niteròi's MAC Contemporary Art Museum. The flying saucer-like building was conceived in 1991 and inaugurated in 1996 by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. It dominates Guanabara Bay, overlooking Rio, and it will be hosting a fashion show for the first time.

"I felt immediately inspired by this location - explained Nicolas Ghesquière, Creative Director of the Louis Vuitton women's collections  - Following the home of Bob and Dolores Hope, designed by John Lautner in Palm Springs, we continue an architectural journey that is typical of the label. It is like being transported into a composition in which nature, geography and architecture merge through a great architect's vision, exactly as it was with John Lautner. With the Cruise 2017 presentation, we will discover Oscar Niemeyer's vision."

"It will be a great pleasure to welcome our guests in Rio de Janeiro - said Michael Burke, President and CEO of Louis Vuitton - Three months before the Olympics, the whole world's eyes are trained on Rio and we are very excited for being here now. Once again we are setting off on a voyage of discovery, to a place that is different for its amazing culture and spirit, so aptly represented by Niemeyer's work and by this architectural wonder of his, which leaves you speechless."

Following the show, the LVMH group's flagship label will also be supporting the museum's artistic programme for one year, sponsoring four exhibitions. Louis Vuitton will not be the only fashion label presenting its Cruise collection in a striking location. On June 2nd Gucci will show its Resort collection in London's Westminster Abbey, while in May Chanel will fly to Cuba with its 'Croisière' collection.
