Assam’s Ligiribari village has been declared the state’s first model textile village, with over 300 self-employed women engaged in textile weaving and 80 families allotted handlooms under the chief minister’s rural development scheme.
Member of parliament from Jorhat Kamakhya Prasad Tasha announced this last week, saying product quality should be the focus.
The Sivasagar district administration will help the women in marketing their products through online portals, media reports in Assam quoted district deputy commissioner Narayan Konwar as saying.
A model textile village will be developed at Jhanji soon to make the region self-sufficient in these products, he added.
