Ahead of the upcoming winter festive edition of Lakmé Fashion Week, a group of brands and designers came together to discuss the growing importance of social media marketing in the Indian fashion industry with Instagram, a platform with over one billion users worldwide. The designers and brands included Pero, Shantanu & Nikhil, Nicobar, and Jaypore. IMG Reliance’s fashion team were also present.

“Instagram is the leading primary content consumption platforms for the Fashion Industry,” said the Vice President and Head of Fashion at IMG Reliance, Jaspreet Chandok, at the event. “We are happy to continually enhance our partnership with Instagram and look forward to creating narratives that can showcase the power of the platform to young and emerging designer businesses.”

The event included a masterclass where best practices were discussed as well as the symbiotic relationship between Instagram and fashion. A story sharing session took place and a number of fashion entrepreneurs including Nicobar’s Raul Rai, Jaypore’s Shilpa Sharma, Shantanu and Nikhil’s Nikhil Mehra, and IMG Reliance’s Jaspreet Chandok.

This collaboration between Instagram and Lakmé Fashion Week illustrates how important social media is for Indian fashion brands now. Where before Indian customers did not take as much notice of social media as many of their global counterparts, it has become a necessity for Indian fashion brands to use social media to remain relevant.
