Khadi production grew 37 percent in last four years: KVIC - KVIC

The Khadi fabric production rose by 38.30 million square meters to 142 million square meters from 103 million square meters in the last four years, KVIC said in a statement.

Commenting on the feat, KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena said, “The steep rise in Khadi sector fabric production is due to the repeated appeals of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to adopt Khadi.”

"We started registration of new Khadi institutions for widening the scope for employment as well as the revival of defunct Khadi institutions. From 2015-16, altogether 38,684 new Khadi artisans have been added till October 10 this year, consequently rising the artisan’s number to 494,684," he added.

KVIC has been expanding its khadi stores across India and has added close to 326 new Khadi institutions in the last two years. It is looking at touching a sales target of Rs 5,000 crore (approx $689 million) by the end of 2018-19.

Sales of khadi had registered a sharp 25 percent increase to Rs 2,503 crore in fiscal 2017-18.
