Instagram has released its newest update, one that will allow users to post multiple photos within a single post.

Users will no longer have to pick just one photo at a time to post on Instagram – the app’s newest upgrade will allow users to post a mini-album of up to ten videos and photos in a single post. The photos and videos will look like regular photo and video posts, but users will be able to swipe left or right to see more visual content. Users can comment or ‘like’ the posts like any other post.

Prior to this mass launch, carousel videos and photos were available to select paid advertisers. Wednesday's release will allow all users to use this feature.

The new multi-photo feature comes as an effort by Instagram to build on the success of Instagram Live, which currently boasts 150 million users per day.

More and more users are looking to share a more spontaneous view of their lives, one that Instagram's former one-photo limit restricted. In response to this, Instagram, currently owned by Facebook, launched its Instagram Stories & Instagram Live features last August. The feature is very similar Snapchat’s overall concept – users are able to film segments of video, with all the content disappearing within 24 hours.

The feature will roll out globally over the next few weeks on both iOS and Android devices.
