Industries Minister K.J. George: state will support new Sutlej Textiles unit in Chamarajanagar

On July 23, the Industries Minister K.J. George stated that the state government will support the proposed Sutlej Textiles unit in Badanaguppe and Kallambahalli villages in the Chamarajanagar district.

The new Sutlej Textiles unit will be created with an investment of Rs 786 crore ($118.4 million) and is one of several textile units planned for the district. The land allotted for the Sutlej Textiles development is 46 acres large and the business has said that the unit will be set up to manufacture sportswear. The Sutlej Textiles development is also expected to provide around 1,800 jobs in the area.

 The Industries Minister K.J. George stated that he is eager to develop the Chamarajanagar district, especially in terms of garment manufacturing because the state is classified as one of the most “backward”. As part of this, George has approve 94 projects with a total investment of Rs 162 crore in the district hoping to create employment opportunities, especially for young people.

According to the state’s Industrial Policy, a subsidy of between 20 and 25 percent is available for industrial projects located in “backwards” regions. The district’s Gundlupet and Yellandur taluks are classified as “most backward zone” and Chamarajanagar and Kollegal taluks are classified as “very backward”.
