On September 28, the Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council, part of the government’s Ministry of Skill Development, announced that it had signed a MoU with CIDESCO. The Zurich-based organisation is seen as a world standard in the beauty and spa industry and its MoU with the Indian government will work to boost overseas employment for Indian beauty professionals.

The Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council said in a statement that the MoU states that Indian beauty candidates will be able to get dual certification that will be recognised in 60 countries. This will make it easier for them to work in the industry abroad.

The council’s chairperson, Vandana Luthra, said: "It is the first-of-its-kind initiative in which a sector skill council has signed a MoU with an international body for boosting global mobility of the candidates trained in beauty therapy.”

The council was created four years ago and is currently working to bring uniformity in beauty training in the country as well as increase knowledge-exchange with other countries. According to Luthra, this MoU will help the council to achieve this aim.
