The IFI programme was launched on March 3 in association with the state government's Kerala State Institute of Design and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence. An array of well-known Indian fashion designers were part of the event including Manish Malhotra, Peter D'Ascoli, Wendell Rodricks, Arjun Khanna, Suket Dhir, Alan Alexander Kaleekal, and Jebin Johny. The designers shared their experience and expertise with the audience and young designers and there were a number of discussion panels.

The President of the India Fashion Summit, Vinod Nair, spoke at the event and said that, although there has been a tremendous amount of growth in the Indian fashion industry, there had not yet been a platform on which to adequately discuss the nuances of the fashion industry in India. Nair stated that the IFI programme has filled this void and hopes that it will continue to do so in the future.

The third season of the India Fashion Summit and the launch of the IFI took place at the Kochi Marriott Hotel in Kerala. The India Fashion Summit has been running since 2016 and, this year, the Government of Kerala’s Department of Labour and Skills joined as a co-organiser of the event. The event’s sponsors also included BMW, L’Officiel, and the Kerala State Institute of Design.
