Government of India has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Australia that will see the two countries work together to promote textiles, clothing and fashion sectors in the countries.

The MoU will soon be inked between Indian Ministry of Textiles and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia, the textiles ministry said in a statement.

Both countries will jointly promote economic opportunities, nurture skills and encourage professional engagement in these sectors under the MoU. However, Intellectual Property Rights of either side will stand protected in the partnership.

The weavers will benefit from the activities to be taken under MOU as the initiative aims to increase the handloom fabric production and generate employment in the sector.

The partnership will also give Indian textiles and handloom industry international exposure and help boost exports as under the partnership Australian fashion designers will produce garments using Indian woven textiles and market them across the globe.
