Hidesign celebrates 40 years with continued international expansion

Founded in 1978, Hidesign is celebrating its 40th birthday this year and the handbag brand is showing no signs of slowing down its brick and mortar expansion plans.

“This year, all our efforts are going towards building a dozen airport stores in India,” Hidesign’s Founder Dilip Kapur told IndiaRetailing. Seeing airports as the place to find a city’s aspirational middle class, they are seen as prime locations for the brand in India along with malls. Airports selected for store openings this year include Kochi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.

The brand is also continuing to expand internationally and is focusing on the Middle East in particular. Store openings are planned in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Kuwait this year and Hidesign runs separate social media sites for the area. Hidesign will also open in new markets soon including in Sarajevo and Indonesia and the brand will also expand its nascent presence in the USA, Spain, and Portugal.

Reporting a growth rate of between 15 and 16 percent during the previous financial year, slowed down due to the after effects of demonetisation and the GST, Hidesign predicts over 20 percent growth this year.

Hidesign is present in over 25 countries and is internationally sold through a mix of independent store, department stores, and on e-commerce sites. Hidesign is also seeing growth in corporate sales.
