NEW YORK, June 22 (Reuters) - Henry Dunay, a New York jewelry company that has outfitted dozens of celebrities and sells designs through upscale department stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus filed for bankruptcy on Monday 22 June.

Henry Dunay Designs Inc, filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in U.S. bankruptcy court in Manhattan, listing assets in the range of $1 million to $10 million and liabilities in the same range.

On its website the company said it counts Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Elizabeth Taylor, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Reagan, and Oprah Winfrey among its patrons. Henry Dunay also designed a series of peace pins for the Academy Awards in 2003 and 2004, according to the website.

Henry Dunay, the designer who launched the company in 1965, is listed as president of the company on the bankruptcy filing.

The company did not specify why it filed for bankruptcy in its initial petition, but several jewelry companies have been forced into bankruptcy over the last year as consumers cut back on discretionary purchases.

Mr. Dunay declined to comment on the reason for the bankruptcy filing.
