Handlooms & silk products show Silk Fab begins in Mumbai

Silk Fab, an initiative to connect consumers and weavers on one platform organised by National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) began from July 15 and will run till July 28 at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai.

Around 100 agencies from 14 states are participating in this initiative, which includes state government agencies, primary handloom weavers’ cooperative societies and agencies under the Integrated Handloom Development Scheme.

According to NHDC, 24 such events are organised in major Indian cities and has become a must visit event for handloom aficionados, with the first of this season’s Silk Fab being held in Mumbai.

On show, are silk products such as Pochampally, Muga Silk, Paithani, Kosa Silk, Baluchuri, and Tussar, with exclusives weaves, designs and traditional motifs.

“Government of India has launched the ‘Handloom Mark’ scheme for handloom products and ‘Silk Mark’ for ensure genuinity and give a distinct identity to these products,” NHDC said.

“And so, all the exhibitors at the Silk Fab have been encouraged to display the ‘Handloom Mark’ and ‘Silk Mark’ tag on the products,” the handlooms development government agency stated.
