On May 18, H&M opened a new store in Ahmedabad and the brand’s Country Manager, Janne Einola, took the opportunity to unveil some of the brand’s plans moving forward. H&M has committed to investing 720 crore rupees (approximately 108.2 million US dollars) in the Indian market and is placing a strong focus on the country.

“India is better placed as a supplier for us,” Einola told the Economic Times at the store opening. “Several of our SKUs in the H&M Home brand are sourced from India. We have asked our Indian suppliers to find out ways on how we may improve sourcing from India.” H&M has sourced fabric and garments in India for almost 30 years and the main things sourced include home textiles, linen, lingerie, accessories, and woven textiles.

Currently, H&M is looking into how to source more garments in India, according to Einola. In order to do this, Einola explained that there is a “need to look at the country’s knowledge” in the area. H&M India will also be launching home and cosmetics lines in the near future.
