A new trade association in Gujarat is planning to address issues facing the apparel industry, and develop an ecosystem for the growth and strengthening of the sector as a whole, availing maximum benefits from government. The Association of Apparel Manufacturers and Exporters of Gujarat (AAMEG) was launched on Friday towards meeting this objective.

Speaking at the AAMEG inauguration, Gujarat's minister of state for industries, mines & minerals, and finance Rohitbhai Patel highlighted the importance of growth and development of the garment industry in the state, and emphasised on the necessity to strengthen and improve the value chain of the industry.

"Textiles have a strong base in Gujarat. Now, we need to focus on developing the apparel industry in the state. We should organise more trade shows to create awareness about fairs, as also incentives available from the government. As an organisation, we plan to attract international brands and buyers towards working with apparel units in Gujarat," AAMEG director Meena Kavya said during her inaugural address.

Speakers from various segments of the garment industry shared their experiences and views on the development of the industry in Gujarat. They also recognised the remarkable contribution of the sector towards the overall industrial climate in the state.
